My Name Is Mosa

My name is Mosa Taolana. I am a Mosotho woman aged 27 years, currently living at Maseru Ha Thetsane, who lived at Ministry of Hope Lesotho for about six years. I went to school at Maseru LEC primary school, and I went to St. Catherine’s high school, then I went to Makena high school for my final years. In 2022 I went to police training college, then became a police officer. I have a little brother called Tankiso Taolana. I am also a single mother of a beautiful daughter called Simnikilwe Taolana. I would like to say thank you, Ministry of Hope Lesotho. God is great all the time. 

We recently asked Mosa to share her story. It’s one that she, and we, are proud of. 

Mosa and Ministry of Hope Lesotho experienced a turning point at the exact same moment. Over a decade ago, when our ministry was still new, the Lesotho government shuttered a failing orphanage and placed 23 children in our care. Mosa was one of them. She was 14 years old and still in primary school. 

These were difficult times for Mosa. Her mother had abandoned her children six years before. Mosa had no family other than her little brother, Tankiso. She feared they might be separated when the orphanage closed (children were being sent all over the country at the time), but they were fortunate. They came to Ministry of Hope Lesotho together.

Our three-bedroom home was overcrowded with children (it still is!), but Mosa and Tankiso adjusted nicely. They were safe. They had clean clothes, comfortable beds and enough to eat. Under Mamonyane Mohale’s loving guidance, Mosa grew into a dependable helper and a friend to her housemates.

Mosa finished high school in 2018. With help from Ministry of Hope Lesotho, Mosa and Tankiso reunited with relatives. For the next four years she worked in domestic service and later in sales for a local business. Now she serves her community and her country in the Lesotho Mounted Police Service. Their motto is Lepolesa Mothusi Motsoalle–Police, a Helper, a Friend. 

From a childhood of trauma, insecurity and displacement, Mosa Taolana has grown into a young woman of strength, compassion and courage. Hers is the journey we hope for with every child in our care.
