There is no better way to understand the lifesaving work of Ministry of Hope Lesotho than to witness it in person. Members of the U.S. board of directors lead mission trips to Lesotho once a year, or every other year. We invite you to come along!

How the Trips Work

In 2023, we introduced a new mission trip model that proved to be a big success. So we are doing it again in 2025.

We have found that the ideal size for our mission trips is about eight people, including two co-leaders from the U.S. board. Because we travel around by van (including airport transfers), eight individuals with luggage is the most we can accommodate. And it’s a manageable number of visitors for the staff at Ministry of Hope to host.

To make this opportunity available to as many visitors as possible, we run two trips back to back. Here is the schedule for 2025:

  • Trip A: Departs on Thursday, Jan. 9, from the U.S., arriving in Johannesburg on Friday, Jan. 10. We will drive to Maseru, Lesotho, on Saturday, Jan. 11, and return to Johannesburg on Thursday, Jan. 16. Participants will fly back to the U.S. on Friday, Jan. 17.

  • Trip B: Departs on Thursday, Jan. 16, from the U.S., arriving in Johannesburg on Friday, Jan. 17. We will drive to Maseru, Lesotho, on Saturday, Jan. 18, and return to Johannesburg on Thursday, 23.. Participants will fly back to the U.S. on Friday, Jan. 24.

Why January? That’s summertime in Lesotho, so the weather is warm and the children have lots of energy for playing outdoors.

We stay in a comfortable guest house in Maseru, within walking distance of Ministry of Hope. In addition to quality time (play!) with the children, these trips usually involve work projects in and around the household. There is also time set aside to explore Johannesburg and the Lesotho countryside. Watch the video to get an idea of what our mission trips are like!

How to Apply

We make these trips available primarily to our supporting congregations and other donors. We also welcome representatives from congregations that are new to Ministry of Hope Lesotho and interested in learning more. Others with an interest in our work are also welcome as space allows.

Sometimes a mission trip will gather participants from a single congregation. Our trips in 2023, on the other hand, welcomed individuals from five different congregations from around the U.S. Either way, our hope is that all who visit Ministry of Hope Lesotho will come away inspired by our work and ready to spread the word.
