(Re)telling Our Story
In 2018, New York videographer Emily Dombroff edited our first website video, a five-minute piece (shot largely on a board member’s smartphone) that introduced the mission and lifesaving work of Ministry of Hope Lesotho.
“After looking at these images for several weeks,” she recalls, “I thought, ‘Wouldn't it be amazing if I could go one day and bring my camera and meet all these people?"
Fast forward through the pandemic to January 2023, when her idea became reality. Emily joined our mission trip that winter and spent eight days getting to know the children and staff of Ministry of Hope Lesotho.
“I wanted to meet and tell the story of the people who make this place what it is,” Emily says. “We shot interviews with the staff to understand their roles, and I had my camera in hand most days as I captured the day-to-day operations of this well-oiled machine.”
An extensive interview with co-founders Nancy Dimmock and Mamonyane Mohale provides the narrative for what became our new website video, featured now on our homepage.
“The children were curious and then comfortable as they saw me every day getting in the action with my camera in hand,” Emily says. “They were funny and excited to show me their lives, and the things they loved to do.”
While still on site in Maseru, Emily produced a gift for her hosts — a two-minute compilation of the children dancing, singing and having fun with their American visitors. To the children’s great delight, she screened it for them on the last day of her visit. (See the video on our YouTube page.)
“It was an amazing experience to travel to this place, and to meet the children, Mamonyane and the wonderful staff of Ministry of Hope,” Emily says. “I am forever grateful for the opportunity to travel to their home and for the privilege of telling their story.”
