Our New Baby

She arrived just before Christmas. She’d been found abandoned in a village near Maseru, the capital city. She was malnourished, her skin was extremely dry, and she had painful sores on her head. After a local orphanage turned her away, the hospital released her to our care.

At Ministry of Hope Lesotho, we often take in the most difficult cases—children born with HIV, children who arrive unable to speak, unable to walk—and we restore them to health. In a nation where poor children frequently go hungry, rarely complete more than a few years of school and often suffer unspeakable abuse, we offer a home and a future.

These days, though, it is difficult to keep the world at bay. Drastic cuts in U.S. foreign aid and newly imposed tariffs threaten to undo the modest economic progress Lesotho has made over the past decade.

But we are fortunate. For over 15 years, Ministry of Hope Lesotho has thrived, thanks to the generosity of our supporting congregations and our individual donors.

Our new baby is now six months old and a healthy 13 lbs. We have named her Senate Lerotholi. That is a royal name in Lesotho, the kind of name traditionally given to a child whose parentage is unknown. It’s also a reminder that our children are beloved in God’s kingdom.
